Breast Cancer Awareness Pendant 2

Hi everybody! Kim here from My Kraft Kloset reminding you that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I wanted to create something special to show my support and to remember my younger sister, who lost her battle with breast cancer one year ago at the age of 46. I wanted to do something to raise awareness and spread the word to all the women in our lives, because early detection can save lives! I've designed this beautiful pendant in antique silver with a few accent pieces that are very personal to me from Craft Fantastic to wear proudly.

Click "here" to get all the basic details on how to get started and all the supplies I used are listed below.

Facts About Breast Cancer:
in the USA from the National Breast Cancer Foundation, INC:
  • One in eight women in the USA will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
  • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.
  • Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women.
  • Each year it is estimated that over 252,710 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,500 will die.
  • Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,470 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 460 will die each year.
  • On average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer and 1 woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes.
  • Over 3.3 million breast cancer survivors are alive in the USA today.
  • GET TESTED EARLY!! Early detection can save lives.

Breast Cancer Screenings:
Here are some screening guidelines according to the American Cancer Society:

These guidelines are for women at average risk for breast cancer who don't have a personal history of breast cancer, don't have a strong family history of breast cancer, or don't have the genetic mutation known to increase risk of breast cancer (such as BRCA), and has not had chest radiation therapy before the age of 30.
  • Women between 40 and 44 have the option to start screening with a mammogram every year. (I would start at 30-35 to create a base line)
  • Women 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year.
  • Women 55 and older can switch to a mammogram every other year, or they can choose to continue yearly mammograms. Screening should continue as long as a woman is in good health and is expected to live 10 more years or longer.
  • All women should understand what to expect when getting a mammogram for breast cancer screening – what the test can and cannot do. For those who are of higher than average risk please click here.
I am not a medical doctor, so consult with yours, but from my families experience the earlier you can have a mammogram the better you are to start a baseline of your medical history. Or earlier if you have a family history of breast cancer or the BRCA gene. Insist on a mammogram, regardless of your age. Or change doctors if you don't agree with them.  If your ever told you have dense breast tissue, it makes tumors harder to detect, and you should insist on an MRI or ultrasound for further testing. Only YOU can be your own health care advocate and only YOU can save your life or the women in your lives with EARLY DETECTION!!!

I hope I've inspired you to become aware of your breast health, get educated, talk to your daughters, mothers, sisters, family, friends and share awareness with others. Thanks for stopping by!

Celebrate Mom with Craft Fantastic

Hi everybody! Kim here from My Kraft Kloset sharing a very special jewelry set I made for my Mom using all Craft Fantastic products.  And as Mother’s Day is tomorrow Sunday, May 14th you do still have time to make a set for all the special ladies in your life too. Because it truly is fast, simple, inexpensive, and turns out...oh so...beautifully.

Let’s get started: Gather up all your supplies and choose your images.

1. I chose a large daisy image for the pendant and two smaller daisy images for the earrings, because they are my Moms favorite flower, but I love them too. As shown in the picture above the new glass bling will also fit in these stunning earring trays too.

2. Add a few Craft Fantastic Glaze & Glue droplets onto the back of the glass circles and place onto the daisy images. Move your glass around to position your images, add a little pressure to get any bubbles out, and make sure the surface is completely covered. Hold in place for a couple minutes to set in place. Let dry for a few minutes.

3.  Once dry, use a Q-tip to remove any excess glue around the edges of the glass. Cut around the edges of the glass and cut out the images.

4.  The earrings:  I chose these *NEW* silver earring trays for my daisy images to sit in. Cut one Fantastic Jewelers Dot in half, because the tray is very small, and place inside each tray. Peel off the red backing, place the glass into the trays, and press down to secure in place.

 5. With pliers open a small jump ring, place through the bottom loop of the tray, add heart charms to each earring, and close with pliers. Add finished trays to the long earwires to complete a pair of earrings.

 6.  The pendant: Repeat Steps 2-3 as shown above.

7.  Next I chose this stunning *NEW* antique silver rosette tray pendant for my image to sit in. To me, it looks like open hearts on each petal. Added 2-3 Fantastic Jewelers Dots to hold the glass in place, peel off red backing, place the glass into the tray, and press down all over to secure in place.

8. With pliers open a large jump ring, place through the pendant and add the heart charm, and close with pliers. Add a long draping neck chain to complete your gift. Voila!
Another stunning handmade jewelry set that is super special for Mom or any special lady!

I hope I’ve inspired you to try these wonderful Craft Fantastic products, because the possibilities are truly endless!  So think about giving this hobby a try and make a gift that is uniquely handmade for any occasion. Vintage By The Sea Necklace + Scraps

Hi everybody! Kim here from My Kraft Kloset  sharing a unique piece of jewelry I made using antique brass Craft Fantastic  products and some beachy vintage scrapbooking supplies.

With warm weather approaching, who is ready to head to the beach? I know I am. So today I’ll show you how the beach inspired me to make this one-of-a-kind handmade necklace with just a few supplies and scraps.

 Let’s get started:

1.  Choose your image. I found a small sample picture from the cover page of this beachy paper collection    (as shown above with a white arrow).  I placed the square glass over the image and it appeared to be too small to fill the whole surface of the glass. So, I cut out the image to layer it with a coordinating piece of gingham patterned paper from the same collection. Surprise! Another art collage.  Look around, use what you have, be creative, and use your scraps too! One woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure.

2.  Add a few Craft Fantastic Glaze & Glue droplets onto the back of the tiny sample image and adhere to a piece of gingham patterned paper. Let dry for a minute.

3.  Then add several Craft Fantastic Glaze & Glue droplets onto the back of a glass square and glue together. Move your glass around, add a little pressure to get any bubbles out, and make sure the surface is completely covered. Hold in place for a couple minutes to set. Let dry.
4.  Once dry, use a Q-tip to remove any excess glue around the edges of the glass. Cut around the edges of the glass and cut out the image.
5.  Next I chose this antique brass square tray pendant because it has a vintage look for my image to sit in. Add a couple Fantastic Jewelers Dots to the tray pendant, peel off red backing, place your glass image into the tray, and press down. Add tray to neck chain.

6.  As you can see from my pictures I had a few fantastic charms to choose from, but in the end I selected this lovely antique heart charm. I slipped the charm onto a small jump ring and used my pliers to close and attached directly to a loop on the neck chain. And Voila! Another stunning piece of handmade jewelry that nobody but you and I know it was made from paper scraps.

I hope I’ve inspired you to try these wonderful Craft Fantastic products along with your paper crafting supplies. Because the possibilities are truly endless!  And don’t forget Mother’s Day is May 14th so think about giving this hobby a try and make a gift that is uniquely special and handmade. Please leave us a comment and let us know what you think, we’d love to hear from you. Thanks for stopping by!

Elegant Rose Connector Pendant Necklace!

My favorite part of our line? Connectors. Hands down. They're more functional than charms, yet just as beautiful. They serve to link up all sort of interesting pieces and really allow the maker to share part of their personality in their art.

Here I've created a simple opera length pendant designed without a clasp. Easy to put on; it hangs at an elegant length. Matching earrings makes this set extra special.

This is not really a tutorial. Instead, it's a recipe for you to create this piece at home.

What You'll Need

Necklace

Earrings

Needed for Both

I removed the lobster clasp and jump rings from a 30" rolo chain then trimmed it down to 20" using scissors. Next I attached the following to each end:

small jump ring
long rose connector
small jump ring
1" length of rolo chain (8 links)
small jump ring
long rose connector
small jump ring
1" length of rolo chain (8 links)
small jump ring

After I added these components to each end I connected the ends together using a large jump ring and added a long rectangle pendant tray. Voila! My elegant opera length pendant necklace is complete!

The earrings were simple to make. I started with ear wires, attached a long rose connector, then a small jump ring, and finally a mini round charm tray. Easy peasy!

A gorgeous necklace and earrings set ready to wear or to give!

I have so many ideas for this...a special hostess gift, a custom creation for a favorite teacher, a mother's day gift for mom, a birthday gift for an aunt, a "just because" gift for my crafty gal pal...oh dear, I could just go and on!

Here it is one more time modeled by our Craft Fantastic team member, Suzanne :) The length is perfect and looks stunning against her gorgeous white tunic!
